Cloud is a stoner/doom band out of Pittsburgh, PA and are the band who lead me down the rabbit hole that is an extensive genre. Sticking soley with instrumentals I feel cloud, like many bands from the more chill/relaxed genres lends itself perfectly to allow you to immerse yourself into their sound.
While not a very long EP only running for about 20 minutes across 3 tracks it does have some interesting offerings:
The first track cosmic carousel is a whopping 10:27 minutes that has sort of a repetive droning to it that lingers through but has some very solid moments where the droning stops and the real playing kicks in. It's enjoyable but maybe a tad long.
The next track unpolished lives up to it's title, while it starts with the sounds of light rain and what sounds like the start of a more interesting song, it just doesn't build up to anything more in the shirt 2 minute time span.
The final track and honestly the one that I found the band through as a single is by far the best of the 3 and certainly has creative points for a title, Grim Reefer. Right out of the gate you get greeted with a bit of fuzzy guitar squeeling that drops you into a van halanesque base line that just continues to rock out the whole rest of the way. Distortion is used well here and the drumming goes along nicely providing some much needed percussion.
When all said and done I would not call this any where near clouds best album, but it sets the stage nicely for some of their much improved works that would not of came along without it.
